Reputation Factions: Update

It's still not clear whether we'll get credit for exalted with a set of factions (e.g. Alliance Vanguard) and each subset member (e.g. Explorer's League, Frostborn, Silver Covenant, and Valiance Expedition). Currently, in my achievement list, and in my reputation panel, I get credit for all 5 of those. But other sets & subsets are not listed the same way (i.e. with a reputation bar for each) and there are discrepancies between the in-game list and the armory list for some (e.g. Alliance and the subdivsions of SW, Gnomer, IF, Darn, Exodar).

(Faction sets in question: Alliance Vanguard, Alliance, Steamwheedle Cartel, possibly others.)

So I can't give a definite tally, but here's a rough estimate:
According to this page, there are about 57 different factions available to us (counting sets and subsets, and not counting Horde or "removed" factions). We're missing about 11 of them. United Nations achievement calls for 55. Cataclysm will likely have about 5 immediately available (probably easy grinds with a tabard, so not worth busting our asses on something now if we can get those 5 easily in the first few weeks of December). This means we need 4 more, preferably before Cata hits. That number could easily go up to 6 or 7 if we don't get credit for sets and all their subsets, and could decrease or increase again if the number of possible Cata reps is more or less than 5.

Of the eleven exalted reputations we do not yet have:

Luinilelen has been grinding out League of Arathor for lots of hours every day.
Epicharis will get Frenzyheart.
Moomello and I are nearing exalted with Hydraxian Waterlords with Molten Core runs.
Rainsong is planning to get Bloodsail on her DK.

Brood of Nozdormu (Ahn'Qiraj), Ashtongue Deathsworn (Black Temple), and Scale of the Sands (Hyjal) will all be get-able by farming old raids. If we can organize 5 or more people and do some strategy research, these could potentially go very quickly (likely 8-10 runs, I think, but of course the length of each run depends greatly on how well prepared we are). I suggest we knock these out one or two at a time, unless we have time for all three in a given lockout: as time goes on we're more likely to get the information required to determine exactly how many reps we need, and if it turns out we only need one or two, I'd rather have those done than be revered with all three.

Darkmoon Faire and Shen'dralar are both insanely expensive, as the former requires Deck turn-ins and the latter requires Pristine Black Diamonds. I'm collecting the Diamonds, and if I get enough from farming the Stratholme mount, I might farm the rest of the mats. Not likely though.

Silverwing Sentinels would require a massively time consuming rep grind in Warsong Gulch.

Ravenholdt requires killing mobs until honored, then farming (on a rogue) about 1300 Heavy Junkboxes from Tyr's Hand or Molten Core. Pain in the ass, probably not an ideal time investment unless you have a ton of free time for mindless grinding. Volunteers?

Other:
Syndicate: gained from killing Ravenholdt mobs, but you can't get past neutral.
Magram and Gelkis: can't get past Honored.

How can you help?
  • Decide that you don't mind running Warsong Gulch 7 million times.
  • Grind out the Ravenholdt junkboxes if you have a rogue.
  • Invest 20-30k+ in Darkmoon decks or Pristine Black Diamonds.
  • Help us to organize raids for rep farming in AQ, Hyjal, and BT. Learn the boss mechanics, take notes, and do research to see if there are other ways to accelerate the rep grind (e.g. turn ins or repeatable.

Why does this matter ?
Guild progression and guild perks will play a large part in establishing our reputation in Cataclysm. If we can offer the lion mount, increased profession perks, gold drops, raid utility, mount speed, and leveling xp, reduced hearthstone CD, remote bank access, etc., we are likely to have a larger pool of players to choose from, which will allow us to be more selective about who runs in our groups. We will probably ditch the idea of 1-player per raid spot, rather than have so many nights when we start late, end early, or don't run at all.
Hopefully this means we will have a more consistent schedule without having to carry terrible, semi-blind players' ungeared third alts with retarded specs and worse rotations through our main group's progression anymore.

Of course, "55 exalted reputations" is not the only thing that matters for guild progression. Please do what you can to prepare for solid progress as soon as Cataclysm hits: guild achievements will involve thousands of daily quests, cooking, fishing, critter killing, farming and crafting in large volumes, and most importantly, getting to 85 as quickly as possible, staying ahead of the raid progression curve, and contributing to PvP and PvE achievements. See here for some details.

It's probably a safe assumption that guild achievements like this, this, and this will drive the costs of mats up and the cost of crafted items and consumables down, as crafters scramble to meet the quotas and flood the market with the resulting products. The best bet is to get your gatherers and crafters working before 95% of the rest of the server has professions leveled.

Update: According to this site, there will be SIX reputation factions in Cataclysm, all of which will allow you to grind rep by wearing a tabard. However, this time rep is only available through heroic dungeons (in LK any lvl 80 dungeon provided tabard rep), and the gear requirements for heroics should be a bit more difficult than they were last time. We'll look at rep rewards and pick 1 faction for each person to raise to exalted to get us there as quickly as possible.

Reputation Factions

Regarding the guild achievement "United Nations": We need to raise 55 reputations to exalted, including the 5 new factions that will be added in Cataclysm. I think there are 57 reputation factions in the game currently, so in Cata we'll be able to skip 7, total. This number keeps changing, so I'll get a better count in a subsequent post. For example, Z's shammy has met Magram Clan Centaur and Gelkis Clan Centaur, which explains why he's been missing for most of WotLK. I'm not sure that these count, nor am I certain that the subsets of a given faction count either.

Factions not yet completed by a guild member are in bold, along with any info regarding plans or work in progress. Please leave comments, as I did not bother to check everyone's armory carefully. The more info we have, the less likely it is that someone will spend time and money doing a redundant rep grind.

Syndicate

Kalu'ak
Ebon Blade

Hydraxian Waterlords
Thorium Brotherhood
Timbermaw Hold
Zandalar Tribe
Shen'dralar Probably skip: 20k+ worth of Pristine Black Diamonds

Vile Spirits

Some guilds have success allocating little to no DPS on the spirits, by maximizing distance between the raid and the explosions. The strategy is mostly about positioning: start on an edge of the platform, move the Lich King to the opposite side when the Spirits show up, the raid stays with the MT and LK, and the spirits will get close to ground level by the time they reach the middle of the platform. The offtank plays "tag" with all the spirits, hitting as many as possible. If executed well, this allows for most or all of the DPS to be on LK, so even if things start to fall apart, the percentage of time when survival/zerg cooldows are active goes way up.

Defiles could potentially cause serious problems for this strategy, so there's less room for error: there must be a clear path for kiting to the opposite side every time the spirits spawn, or else we'll end up with range issues and defiles splitting the raid into smaller groups. In this video, though, the defiles are not perfectly executed and they muddle through:

If anyone has other suggestions or concerns about this strategy please post them.

Lich King Attempts

I apologize for any random and unnecessary movement, and also for the odd timing for the split between parts one and two. If you wish to view these on YouTube, you will find link-type comments that make it easy to jump to each attempt. Also, I'd be happy to upload a shorter segment at regular speed or whatever else may be helpful for anyone. Just let me know. :)

Raid analysis from WorldOfLogs (or, as I read it, world o flogs)

I took our combat logs from last night, plus a few random chunks of combat logs from previous runs with Sans long ago (before I joined, maybe), and uploaded to World of Logs. Now we can pick apart our raids in excruciating and prettily-graphed detail! /woot!

Below is the widget that lists recently uploaded logs. I couldn't figure out how to insert the iframe code into the guild page itself - either I don't have the right permissions or I'm a moron. Either way, here's the stuff:

Ms. Garrison: All right, kids, it is now my job to teach you the theory of evolution.
Butters: Oh boy!
Ms. Garrison: Now I, for one, think evolution is a bunch of *bullcrap*! But I've been told I have to teach it to you anyway. It was thought up by Charles Darwin and it goes something like this...
[goes up to a large poster of evolution and begins pointing things out with her pointer] In the beginning, we were all fish. Okay? Swimming around in the water. And then one day a couple of fish had a retard baby, and the retard baby was different, so it got to live. So Retard Fish goes on to make more retard babies, and then one day, a retard baby fish crawled out of the ocean with its... [waves left hand] ...mutant fish hands... and it had butt sex with a squirrel or something and made this.
[points to a prehistoric mammal rodent] ...retard frog-sqirrel, and then *that* had a retard baby which was a... monkey-fish-frog... And then this monkey-fish-frog had butt sex with that monkey, and that monkey had a mutant retard baby that screwed another monkey... and that made you! So there you go! You're the retarded offspring of five monkeys having butt sex with a fish-squirrel! Congratulations!

Cartman: [impatient for a Nintendo Wii, hops out of his chair and leaves the room, shouting] Aahhh! I can't take it anymore! aaaaah!

Ms. Garrison: Yeah? You see? I *knew* that would happen.

My Blog :P

Okay, I thought I'd put a link to it here, if anyone is interested in checking it out. I mostly post about interests of mine, or things I like, and informative posts on very simple, basic things in the game. It's meant to be a wow blog for people who don't what the poop wow is, like my family. heee So, yeah, stop by if you'd like. I has some pretty videos anyway.

Holy Paladin Gearing

I'll keep it as brief and painless as possible. :)

You want the 2-set bonus from t10 at some point. Recommended pieces are shoulders and helm. Other pieces may be upgraded when and how you see fit.

Because Luin's druid alone provides excellent and reliable raid heals (not to mention we generally have another raid healer), you will probably want to be a holy light-focused pally. This means you will ignore socket bonuses, stacking intellect instead. Use one nightmare tear to fulfill the meta requirements. In general, HL pallies should aim for a minimum of 600-676 haste, then prioritize Int > haste/mp5 > crit. A piece of gear is an upgrade if it has 20+ int more than the current piece, even if it has no mp5.

Sounds weird, but Libram of Renewal (the ilvl 200 one) is actually the best libram from a HL pally because of the mana savings. Pick up the triumph one for throughput for fights like Valithria if you wish, but the frost one is pretty much a waste.

The Sliver of Pure Ice from Marrowgar and the Talisman of Resurgence from triumph badges are two great trinkets for pallies, save your frosts for other gear.

Here, a scammer is persuaded to make a commercial for Anus Laptops so he can get his own computer.
Instead he pays $1700 in cash to DHL for freight charges for a Log of Wood.

(Features an audio conversation with the scammer after he receives his $1700 piece of wood.)

Here's the script he was given for his commercial:

Make sure to wear your best suit. You must look professional.
You will need to set up a bench, and have several laptops on the bench with the screens open. Maybe 3 or 4 laptops.
On the ground, on each side of the bench, you will need a lit torch. A torch is a stick that is implanted into the ground, and the top of the stick is on fire. Putting a rag on top of the stick with some gasoline will make the torch illuminate correctly.
The torches must stay lit for the entirety of the commercial.
(start out standing at the left of the table but not to block the torch)

You say: Hi, my name is ( your name here ). As a business man, I understand that GREAT ( <---say it loud) technology creates GREAT ( <---say it loud) decisions, and this is why Ay-Nus Laptops is here to help you make the right choice in today's busy lifestyle. (As you say this paragraph walk to the right of the table, make sure to use your hands a lot while talking) You say: Whether you choose the compact design of the Ay-Nus PDQ ( make a motion with your hands that shows you mean small), or the enormous performance packed Ay-Nus XXL (show a motion with your hands that shows you mean BIG), you know you have made the right decision that will ensure your computing experience is second to none. (give a thumbs up to the camera) (For the rest of the commercial, do a lot of walking around and use your hands a lot. Do not be boring, and make sure you smile constantly) You say: With the highest standards of technology packed inside your Ay-Nus, and our own patented Wipe-It-Clean software, your Ay-Nus will stay clean of viruses and perform like an Ay-Nus should. (do whatever you want here) You say: We know you'll love having the biggest Ay-Nus in town with the new Ay-Nus XXL, so drop what you are doing, and visit Ay-Nus Laptops now and order yours TODAY!!!! (do whatever you want here) You say: Size does matter when it's an Ay-Nus! (make sure you are smiling, and give a 2 thumbs up to the camera for the ending)

We're going to try using the strategy & positioning in this video.

Storm's to-do list

Get this addon:
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/clcret.aspx

Memorize this.
Skip the "professions" and "Rawr" stuff. Not that important for you. Skip PvP if you want.

With that new trink, you are 75 hit rating over the cap. Once you reach the cap, hit rating is one of the few stats that does literally nothing for you, so you're free to regem now.

Everything that can be enchanted should be, see the guide for which to get.

This is a great site for loot lists at a glance, though you shouldn't always trust their rankings.

Gear:

Helm: Fix the meta gem and ditch that hit gem.
Neck: Yours is ok, possibly this from Pit since you don't need the hit.
Shoulders: Yours are good, and you've got the enchant now. Peachy.
Cloak: Check with Z for 23 haste vs. 22 agility. Maxdps.com says haste but I think that's wrong.
Chest: If you don't have 95 frost emblems to spend on a chestpiece then get this one crafted.
Wrist: Get these crafted.
Hands: Yours are good until you can get the frost emblem ones. Fix the gem, get an enchant.
Belt: yours is fine until you can get a frost one. Put a Belt Buckle in there and a strength gem.
Pants: Same gem complaint (hit), and get the Leg Armor.
Boots: No tank boots allowed. These if you want to spend 5 thousand gold, these if you want to spend more like 1k. (Maybe half that if you can provide some materials).
Ring: This is 35 triumph. This is from HoR heroic. Both are big upgrades.
Trinks: Your new upgrades are swell.
Weapon: This one from Pit of Saron.

To get the chestpiece, bracers, and cheaper boots crafted, you'll need 23 Titansteel Bars, 12 Crusader Orbs, and 6 Runed Orbs.

We'll help you find crafters for those pieces. Everything else (Leg Armor, Belt Buckles, gem cuts), we can make if you can help get the mats together. Don't buy those crafted pieces on the AH, you'll pay an extra 1-2k gold per piece.

Deep Thought

I wanted this to be the Guild Message of the Day but it wouldn't fit.

At Peeve's request, Rainsong's schedule for July

At Peeve's request, I'm posting my schedule for July, as my availability leaves something to be desired (like availability). Things may change as we move through the month and discover new and terrible bugs that need to be fixed before launch, at which point I will update it.

Wednesday, 7/1 - Saturday, 7/3 - Should be "normal", but it's possible something work related could come up that prevents me from being available. Will try to notify via text as soon as possible.

Sunday, 7/4 - Available, but have to end early (like 10pm).

Monday, 7/5 - Possibly available, but may be very tired (at work at 4:30am).

Tuesday, 7/6 - Tuesday, 7/13 - Should be "normal", but it's possible something work related could come up that prevents me from being available. Will try to notify via text as soon as possible.

Wednesday, 7/14 - Not usually a raiding night anyway, but I'm tentative - if all goes well, I would be available by 9pm.

Thursday, 7/15 - Not available.

Friday, 7/16 - Sunday, 7/18 - Unlikely to be available.

After 7/18, I'm not sure. Probably another "Should be "normal", but it's possible something work related could come up that prevents me from being available. Will try to notify via text as soon as possible."

I will keep this updated as events warrant.

Danke!

Stream of Consciousness theorycrafting for Rain

The two crafted upgrades, as they compare to Spellslinger's Slippers:

Deathfrost Boots:
+29 stam
+28 int
+41 spellpower
+64 hit (probably of no value to you)
+80 crit
(same sockets)
-41 spirit
-56 haste

The 41 spirit that you lose, in addition to some mana regen, is worth about 14 crit rating (or 0.305% crit chance). But the extra intellect on the 264 boots will give you .168% crit chance back, so the 80 crit gain on the better boots is more like, let's say, 74.

So you're comparing 56 haste and a bit of mana regen to 41 spellpower and 74 crit.

That's definitely an upgrade, and if you're having mana issues on any fights, the exchange looks even more attractive (spellpower and crit are "free" damage with respect to your mana pool, unlike haste, which drains resources faster.) I have a hard time seeing that as a 5 or 6 thousand gold upgrade, though.

Sandals of Consecration:

+29 stam
+28 int
+39 spirit
+41 spellpower
+64 crit
+41 spellpower
2 yellow sockets instead of 1 red 1 blue
-56 haste

So you get the same extra tiny bit of crit from the intellect, plus you get another 13 crit or so from from the 39 spirit, plus you get the extra 64 crit rating (16 less than the other 264 boots). So on balance, less crit than the others, but a nice upgrade over your current boots.
You get the extra mana regen from 39 spirit and ahhh dammit I just realized I did the crit calculations without considering that you are using the glyph of molten armor. So the crit rating you lose from the spirit loss in option 1, and amount of crit gained from +39 spirit in option 2, should be given a bit more emphasis in your head: 55% of spirit rather than 35%. It's late and I'm tired. YOU figure it out. I'm not good at etymology! (Or is it ichthyology? Which one is for counting things? Which one is where you learn to bury staplers in your backyard for religious reasons? Would those staplers be tax deductible?)

Sorry, back. Yeah so in option 2 you get 21.45 crit JUST from spirit, and then 64 crit rating. So damn, it's actually more crit than the Deathfrost Boots, despite how it would appear at first glance. So you see, burying staplers is useful.

And you gain 41 spellpower, and a bit of mana regen. But you still lose 56 haste. Which sucks, BUT, the nice thing about option 2 is that you get 2 yellow gems. So we can recoup 40 haste (2 Quick King's Amber) at the cost of the 46 spellpower you've currently got gemming your shoes.
So to redo a little bit of "napkin pharmacology", as it were:
You LOSE 5 spellpower, GAIN a ton of crit, gain a bit of mana regen, and only lose 16 haste.
Hmmph... at one point it seemed like it might end up being a good idea, but now we have you losing spellpower AND haste to get lots of crit. We're talking about damn near 2% of crit here, so it's clearly an upgrade, but again I'm scratching my head wondering why this would be worth 5 or 6 thousand gold.

Of course, you could use hybrid (Reckless) gems in those yellow sockets, in which case you would GAIN 19 spellpower but instead of losing 16 haste, you'd lose 36. 6 in one poop, half a dozen in the toilet. A Freudian Slip is when you say one thing but you really mean your mother.

So to give a short answer to your question about why you shouldn't upgrade the boots: the ones you have "suck" because they're only ilvl 226, but they're itemized almost perfectly. Both 264 boots are upgrades but you upgrade to shitty itemization.

Btw, you have a talent that increases spirit by 10% so adjust all numbers I've mentioned accordingly. Also, you have a talent that gives you spellpower equal to 15% or your intellect, so that's +5.2 spellpower for either of the 264 boots.

Coda:

I think you're now safely over the hit cap, enough to get spellpower on those gloves instead of the hit rating (if you DON'T have a Draenei in the party, you'll be 1 hit rating short, but that's like maybe missing 1 spell a week, and if you DO have a Draenei there you'll be 25 points over. Both of those assume that there's no shadow priest or druid putting the debuff on the boss (misery or Faerie Fire)).

So that's 28 spellpower right there. Also, not to be nitpicky or nothin, but your bracers aren't enchanted, so that's an extra 23 spellpower for free.

There ya go, 51 spellpower, (OOPS 30 sp on bracers, so 58 total) a better upgrade than either of those 264 crafted boots, and it didn't cost 5 primordial saronites.
Not to discourage you from getting them, if you have the money and just want to put your character into.
UPDATE: looks like I forgot to finish that sentence.

You know what else? I could have saved myself a lot of fucking time if I had STARTED by checking the fucking Ruby Sanctum loot table, rather than realizing that it might have something worth looking, sort of as an after thought, just before I post this.

http://db.mmo-champion.com/i/53119/boots-of-divided-being/

Better than either 264 crafted piece, at least for an arcane mage. Much better. (UPDATE: I'M RETARDED, THOSE ARE MAIL) And free, drops on 10m reg, and we'll be running it starting next week.

Goddammit.

elewe's ui

This is my current ui, the pink number in the top left corner of each box is the timer on my rejuvenation on the target. The green number in the top right shows my timer on regrowth. In the pic below you can see tiny yellow numbers of Z's and my health bar, those numbers show me that we both have one wild growth on each of us and it has 2 seconds left on it. The larger number in green, on Peeve's bar near the bottom, is the timer on my lifebloom(it says 8-3 atm) and indicated that he has 8 seconds until it will bloom and 3 stacks on him.
This last pic is of my much older ui. It's common to start out with large bars taking up a lot of space. As you get used to healing you will want to minimize the fuss and free up screen space.

Raji and Peeve

Peeve is the Orange one. Raji died on Sunday. This is from before we moved to AZ.

Best run ever

^ crappy formatting

4 in the morning, FoS with storm.

First boss, I had to target the Corrupted Soul Fragment and do the raid mark strobe effect to get anyone to notice it; even then it worked maybe 1/3 of the time. Couldn't stop laughing. Would pay 1000g for a video it. Collective DPS was too low to kill the fragments, so I spent 90% of combat kiting the boss until the next one spawned. Kill must have taken 5 min.

Next pull, shroud of runes or whatever it is went up, and the priest (who somehow managed 1700+ on the boss after pulling 750 up until that point) gets her spell reflected and ends up... not dead, not injured, but feared.

Got to download that video program, in case something like this ever happens again.

No target plates atm, but that's not a good idea. I had Xperl set up with party targets on so I could always see what the tank was hitting the most, but Xperl goes crazy sometimes and I shut it off.

Alts in raids

I had meant to set up some official rules for bringing other toons into raiding, but I'm lazy and didn't get to it until now.

You may bring in a different character for a given boss fight if:

- That boss is on "farm status": we kill it without any problems every week.

- Your main raiding toon cannot get any more upgrades from that boss.

- None of the main raid characters can use the piece your alt needs, for main- or off- set.

- The switch does not require a toon swap from someone else who needs frost emblems or who can get any upgrades from that boss.

Please speak to Peeve or Z if there's a piece of gear you'd like to get.

We don't want the raid to feel like we're working harder to gear up everyone's alts, so we should try to keep switching to a minimum. Furthermore, even on fights we 1-shot every week, we should continue to give 100%: working together on the same toons with the same people and trying to master each fight is, I feel, an important part of getting our group prepared for hard modes. (How long did the Bone Spike last? Did Peeve lose aggro on one of the reanimated poopsausages? Might that have been enough to cause a wipe on heroic?)
We'd like to maximize overall raid happy points and minimize frowny faces by finding a balance between accommodating alts, on the one hand, and improving progression (less downtime, fewer wipes, & everyone has a character that is geared to the teeth, etc.) on the other. We'll err in favor of the latter but would of course prefer to see gear go to an alt rather than get sharded or vendored.

Valithria

Everyone please watch this video over and over before Sunday.

A few poorly articulated thoughts before bed:
I think we can make huge improvements on this fight with a few chages.

- If we stand in the middle rather than break into 2 groups, we can do the encounter with 1 tank. Ranged will be burning down mobs on both sides from the center area, there should be fewer range issues with heals, and AoE will be more concentrated because more of the adds will be in one place.

- The DPS in this video is not that high: even with AoE, most of the group is below 5k. So it's about precision and strategy, more than output. With everyone standing in the center, we can direct all dps to one side or the other as needed. I can ranged-taunt a mob on the opposite side, and by the time it gets near me, the current one should hopefully be dead. This is more efficient, and will hopefully yield much less damage taken, than having 2 smaller groups trying to burn things down, with help from ranged DPS split between them.

- This fight probably demands more research from DPS than anything else we've done; they will have to know what to kill first without having to think about it. Repeated watching should make it easier to get used to being able to nail the correct priority order in response to visual input (as opposed to names & descriptions or Vent instructions).

- If there's nothing of higher priority in need of killing, be prepared to interrupt the casters (frostbolt volley). Peeve only has 1 interrupt (12 sec CD) that's not on the GCD, and that 1.5 sec window can be prohibitive for efficient interrupts as he button mashes, fails to hold aggro, and accidentally goes into berserker stance.

- The DPS in this video manages to take very little damage. I don't know exactly how they do it, but I'm sure it involves some of the strategy changes I mention above. See if you can figure out more from watching.

To improve your awareness and understanding of where the damage is coming from: after every wipe, go to Recount and scroll to "damage taken". See where you stand, and what you took the most damage from, and consider how you might be able to bring that number down.

Please do this for every fight with massive raid damage, e.g. Rotface. Also, keep in mind that healer mana regen will be getting a significant nerf in Cataclysm; the explicit reason is to prevent them from having the resources to heal DPS through unnecessary raid damage. The intention is that DPS will have to die, rather than simply overtax the healers.
It's as (often more) important to have situational awareness and a mastery of one's survival tools as it is to maximize DPS output: Unless the fight is trivial for healers or we're only beating the enrage timer by a few seconds, 4500 DPS and 5% of raid damage taken is preferable to 6000 DPS and 12% of raid damage taken. This point becomes more serious as the healers are unable to keep DPS alive: 3000 DPS for 5 minutes is much better than 5500 DPS for 40 seconds followed by a death because you stood in the wrong place or had aggro from attacking the wrong adds. Sometimes the problem is just being aware of your own health pool (ever die and have no idea it was about to happen?), so be sure you action bars and health bar are somewhere in the middle of the screen so that you can monitor both while watching the fight. If you need help making this happen with addons, don't be shy about asking.

- We may benefit from dedicating more heals to the group and less to the boss: Vaile on the raid, Hyprying on the raid and the boss, Elewe on the boss. Or something.

- Lore's target-bar addon is awesome (aggro indicator with Lore's % of threat).

- Heroism.

Some Elemental info for Hyprying

First, a shaman to emulate, followed by caveats:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Velen&cn=Elue

I did VoA this morning with this person and he/she was doing over 8k. Check the glyphs, spec, and stats just to get a sense of what an 8k dps setup looks like.
Keep in mind, though, that stat priorities change at different levels of gear: he only itemizes for haste in 2 hybrid gems and 1 enchant, because he already has 908. So you don't necessarily want to copy all his choices until you have access to similar high level raid gear.

http://www.wowarmory.com/item-info.xml?i=47213
Despite low item level, this is a great trinket that's easy to farm in ToC 5 man reg.
Your hit/haste proc trinket is good if you need hit, but you're currently so far over the hit cap that the ToC trink is far superior.

http://www.maxdps.com/shaman/elemental.php
Though its rankings are not 100% reliable, the lists on this site will help you get a sense of where your upgrades might come from. Uncheck all 25 and 10 man instances, select "include leather/cloth", click "submit item options", and see what is available for each item slot, just from running randoms and specific 5 mans during the day.

I haven't read everything here but even if I had I don't know enough about shamans to vouch for it, but usually the forums stickied threads are good and this one appears to be well written. So probably memorize this guide: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=15276982047&sid=1

Also visit Wow.com for mostly bad writing from people who visit mmo-champion.com and manage to turn one sentence from there into a full page column. The class guides can sometimes be informative though, specifically check out http://www.wow.com/category/shaman/.

Raid Preparation, March 11

We hope to tackle the following raid content starting at about 9:00 ST, thurs. 3/11.

-Flame Levi (weekly)
-Marrowgar
-Lady Deathwhisper

Try to be ready to go at 8:30 ST, if everyone is on and we can get an early start on Ulduar, we'll have more time to work on the ICC fights. Please be as prepared as possible: read the guides, watch the Tankspot videos a few times, and make some notes to review immediately before we pull. Ideally each member of the raid should understand the details of a fight well enough to lead and direct a group. Once you have a decent command of the fight mechanics, watching the videos and focusing on an individual raid member (or just the boss, or just the adds, etc.) for the entire encounter can help tremendously with situational awareness.

Basic DK info for Kai

Death Knight forums:

Read them all but start with this one:

Your first priorities are hit and expertise, because if your attacks aren't landing, none of your other stats matter. Hit rating reduces your chance to miss a target, and expertise reduces the chance that your attacks will be dodged and parried. The chance of missing or being dodged or parried goes up as the target's level goes up, so you will need more hit rating for raids (where bosses are level 83) than you will for 5 man content (where bosses are level 82). Getting "capped" means you have enough rating to ensure that your hits always land.

As a DK you do both physical/melee damage and spell damage; melee attacks and spells have different hit caps, as well as different rates of conversion from hit rating to hit %. Use these numbers:

32.79 hit rating = 1% melee hit chance. Against level 83 bosses you need 8% increased melee hit chance, or 262.3 hit rating, to ensure that your physical attacks land.

26.23 hit rating = 1% spell hit chance. Against level 83 bosses you need 17& increased spell hit chance, or 445.91 hit rating, but with a Draenei, 3/3 Virulence, etc. this number drops. Don't worry as much about reaching the spell hit cap.

8.2 Expertise rating = 1 expertise skill. Against level 83 bosses you need 214 expertise rating, or 26 expertise skill, to ensure that you are not dodged. You need 492 expertise rating to ensure that you are not parried, but since you will always be attacking from behind a creature, you don't need to worry about parries.

You are currently 37 hit rating short of the cap, which is very close; but you have no expertise except for the 5 exp. skill from talents, so that should be our first priority.

More specific gear lists incoming...
